Washington Laboratories offers NEMA 250 Testing
A number of environmental standards have an icing/freezing rain test requirement.
The NEMA 250 test is three-fold: 1) to ensure that water doesn’t penetrate your equipment, 2) that it can structurally withstand the ice load, and 3) that water, as it freezes in parts of the unit, doesn’t expand and cause the unit to crack and lose its watertightness.
Military standards typically add a requirement for operation of the unit while covered in ice (which is more of an issue for equipment with moving parts) and that the unit can survive and operate after any specified de-icing operations, like chipping off ice with a hammer or spraying it with de-icing fluid.
…as Norm used to say, this test is enough to “freeze your frang.”
We’ll help you make it right and tight.
