The evolution of radio regulations barely keeps pace with the innovations in the marketplace.  This is true in our industry.  Sometimes, though, the regulations force labs, certifiers and manufacturers to change what we are doing.

The implementation of version 1.8.1 of the European Norm EN 300 328 brings new requirements for laboratories.   Some of those requirements are really not so new.

The title of this standard, sparing no words, is: “Electromagnetic compatibility and Radio spectrum Matters (ERM); Wideband transmission systems; Data transmission equipment operating in the 2,4 GHz ISM band and using wide band modulation techniques; Harmonized EN covering the essential requirements of article 3.2 of the R&TTE Directive.”

That mouthful covers just about every 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, Zigbee and other digital transmitters operating in the very popular (and very crowded) 2.4 GHz unlicensed band.  Notably, it affects WiFi access points, clients and hotspots operating at up to 100 mW of output power.

About the Webinar

The webinar will not just focus on facts and numbers but will offer an overview of the standard and the essential technical requirements for meeting the R&TTE Directive.   Whilst summarizing the structure and requirements of this standard, the webinar will discuss the most significant changes to EN 300 328 over the last few years, including a look at some of the reasons for these changes.   It includes the implications of the new requirements; including a shift in the limits, timelines for compliance and possible options using the European Notified Body process.

The specifics of the standard will be explored:

 –         RF Output Power

–          Power Spectral Density

–          Dwell Times

–          Channel Requirements

–          Hopping Sequences

–          Adaptive Spectrum Sharing

–          Receiver Spurious Emission

One of the biggest challenges with meeting this standard is understanding the changes; and for that it is important to understand the reasons and the basic requirements.

Who Should Attend

Wireless engineers, designers, test engineers and compliance managers. Anyone who has any interest in the testing or compliance of WLAN, Bluetooth or Zigbee devices, plus other technology types which may wish to make use of the ever popular 2.4 GHz band.
